A Royal Navy veteran is celebrating after winning first prize in the October Veterans' Lottery prize draw.
Tom served in the Royal Navy for 10 years and in the Royal Navy of Oman for 18 years and is both proud and thankful for his win.
His father served in the Second World War and his son is also currently serving in the Royal Navy and he understands the importance of the role military charities play in supporting veterans.
The 76-year-old, has played the Veterans鈥� Lottery for five years and he said: 鈥淚鈥檝e done other things like play the Postcode Lottery, but I stopped and played the Veterans鈥� Lottery.
"Those who have served and are struggling to make the adjustment afterwards need all of the support they can get especially in the world that we live in today.
鈥淚 play the Veterans Lottery because I make a regular 拢10 donation every month and it also gives me the chance to have a little flutter too and this makes me feel good.鈥�
Tom admitted that he didn鈥檛 really believe that he鈥檇 won the 拢7, 000 first prize until the money landed in his bank account.
鈥淭he first thing that I did when I received my winnings was to send my old wooden sailing canoe away for some repairs so that myself, my son and my grandson can enjoy some time on the water together,鈥� Tom continued.
鈥淭o know that you鈥檙e doing something to help support veterans and also have a good chance of winning something is a great reason to get involved and sign up.鈥�
Congratulations to Emily from Crewe, who scooped the second prize of 拢3,500.
The Veterans' Lottery is now the UK's largest single-cause lottery and is a key funding stream for the Foundation's grant programme.
