A charity which provides specialist addiction recovery to veterans has been given a massive boost in the shape of a Veterans’ Foundation grant of £180,000.
Thanks to funds raised by our loyal supporters of the Veterans’ Foundation, Tom Harrison House has been awarded the Major Grant which will prove vital for the charity over the next two years.
Based in Liverpool, Tom Harrison House opened in 2016 to provide specialist addiction recovery support for UK Armed Forces veterans.
Operating from three sites, they deliver a range of services including a 12-week Residential Programme, which is designed specifically for those who have served and struggle to engage with mainstream, civilian rehabilitation services.
Funding for the programme is primarily secured from statutory agencies in local authorities and the NHS. However, often the full costs often cannot be secured due to varying availability of funds from statutory sources.
This Major Grant over the next 2 years will establish a ‘flexible fund’ to enable the charity to support the costs for members of the Armed Forces Community to complete the 12-week Residential Programme.
“For veterans seeking a programme that understands their unique experiences and challenges, Tom Harrison House offers a supportive and structured environment aimed at fostering long-term recovery," said Stewart Macgregor, Veterans' Foundation Head of Grants.
"However, the charity faces the complex and lengthy process of securing funds for Veterans to attend their Programme, whilst keeping those individuals safe once they have been referred to them.
"This new fund will provide the organisation with the flexibility to prioritise referrals - which can the difference between a Veteran securing a place, or being turned away - with support extending beyond initial recovery post recover and supporting families.”
